Students with no previous exposure to music will initially be taught the language of music, much like learning a language, this takes exposure to the sounds that are within the language and the opportunity to both explore and create with them. Therefore we focus on training the ear and improvising, introducing small amounts of music notation as the student develops. Students will also explore coordination though games and movement exercises.
During these classes students are introduced to the basic ingredients of music through songs, rhymes, games and movement, focussing on multisensory activities which allow students to discover music in their own way. All lessons aim to develop each student’s creativity, coordination and confidence.
Programmes for schools are designed to meet the needs of the Northern Ireland Music Curriculum, with music activities for Listening and Responding, Performing, and Composing. Just like each individual is different, each class is individual and has different needs, therefore I design the classes to meet the needs of each school. Classes tend to be high energy, fun and full of learning which crosses into many areas of the National Curriculum.
